The Journey of Patricia Rashbrook, Britain’s Oldest Mom
Patricia Rashbrook, a child psychologist from East Sussex, became the UK’s oldest mother in 2006 when she gave birth at age 62. Her path to motherhood was both extraordinary and controversial. Though she already had three grown children, Patricia and her husband John Farrant longed for a child together later in life.
Facing rejection from British fertility clinics due to her age, the couple turned to Italian fertility doctor Severino Antinori. After failed IVF attempts in Italy, they went to Russia for treatment with donor eggs, investing considerable money and hope.

Their son Jude was born healthy by C-section on July 5, 2006, to overwhelming happiness within the family but fierce criticism outside it. Many questioned the morality and practicality of a woman giving birth so late in life, with critics labeling the decision selfish and risky.
Patricia refuted the harsh judgments, sharing that she felt young and fit, and had plans in place, including younger friends to help care for Jude if needed. The family lived quietly and happily, with Jude growing amidst love and support. Tragically, John passed away in 2021, but Patricia’s story remains a groundbreaking moment in fertility history.
